A slow kitchen drain is almost always grease and food buildup – and you can clear it without chemicals.

  1. Pour boiling water down the drain in two or three stages.
  2. Push half a cup of baking soda directly into the drain.
  3. Pour half a cup of white vinegar after – it will fizz vigorously.
  4. Cover the drain for 15 minutes.
  5. Flush with another pot of hot water.

Prevention: run hot water for 30 seconds after washing greasy dishes. Never pour cooking grease down the drain – it solidifies in pipes and causes the most stubborn blockages.
