The machine that cleans your clothes needs to be cleaned too. A dirty washing machine can leave your laundry smelling musty no matter how much detergent you use.
Monthly reset:
- Run an empty hot water cycle with 2 cups of white vinegar poured into the drum. Pause mid-cycle and let it soak for an hour.
- Complete the cycle, then run a second empty cycle with half a cup of baking soda.
- Wipe down the drum, door seal, and detergent drawer with a damp microfiber cloth.
After every load, leave the door open for an hour – this prevents mold and mildew from growing in the drum.
Use only high-efficiency (HE) detergent in HE machines. Regular detergent creates excess suds that leave residue behind.
