Most people clean the toilet bowl but never the tank – which can harbor mold that affects the bowl with every flush.

  1. Remove the tank lid carefully.
  2. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the tank. Let sit 30 minutes without flushing.
  3. Scrub the interior with a long-handled brush.
  4. Flush several times to rinse completely.

Never use bleach tablets in the tank long-term – they corrode the rubber parts inside and lead to costly repairs.
