Washing machines that smell musty leave that smell on your clean laundry.

Monthly cleaning:

  1. Add 2 cups of white vinegar to the drum (no laundry).
  2. Run a hot cycle.
  3. Add half a cup of baking soda and run another hot cycle.
  4. Leave the door open to dry completely.

Weekly habit: wipe the door gasket after the last load of the day. Mold in the rubber gasket is the most common source of washing machine odor.

Front-loaders need this more often than top-loaders because the door seal traps moisture.
