Light switches and door handles are among the most touched surfaces in any home – and among the least cleaned.

  1. Spray a microfiber cloth with an all-purpose disinfectant. Never spray directly onto electrical switches.
  2. Wipe each switch plate, paying attention to the area around the switch itself where oils accumulate.
  3. Wipe each door handle and knob on both sides, including the backplate.
  4. For textured switch plates, use a cotton swab for crevices.

This takes under 5 minutes for a whole house. During cold and flu season, do this daily.
