Guests arriving in an hour? Work in this order and the house will look clean even if it isn’t perfectly clean.

  1. Bathrooms first – guests always check. Wipe sink, toilet, mirror. Replace the hand towel.
  2. Clear all flat surfaces – kitchen counter, coffee table, dining table. Toss clutter in a laundry basket and deal with it later.
  3. Floors – a quick vacuum or sweep of the main living areas. Skip bedrooms.
  4. Kitchen sink – rinse it clean and dry it. A clean sink makes the whole kitchen look better.
  5. Lighting and scent – dim overhead lights slightly, open a window, or light a candle. Ambiance hides a lot.

Focus on what guests will actually see and use. Everything else can wait.
