Mineral buildup in shower heads reduces water pressure and can harbor bacteria. In southern Utah and Arizona, this happens faster due to very hard water.

Monthly descaling:

  1. Fill a plastic bag with undiluted white vinegar.
  2. Secure the bag around the shower head with a rubber band, submerging the face plate.
  3. Let sit 1 hour – or overnight for severe buildup.
  4. Remove the bag and run hot water for 1 minute to flush.
  5. Scrub remaining deposits with an old toothbrush.

Restored water pressure is the immediate result. Bacteria levels drop significantly as well.
