A dirty doormat defeats its own purpose – it deposits dirt rather than collecting it.
For rubber or synthetic mats:
- Shake vigorously outdoors or bang against a hard surface.
- Rinse with a garden hose on both sides.
- Scrub with warm soapy water and a stiff brush.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before returning to position.
For coir (natural fiber) mats:
- Shake and vacuum only – water can cause mold in natural fibers.
- Let dry completely in the sun if they get wet from rain.
Clean mats monthly or whenever you can see visible dirt buildup on the surface.
